Essaouira Atlas Hotel Announces Luxury Apartments

This week two billboards were posted in front of the Atlas Resorts construction sight on Essaouira Beach. The first poster shows a pool, lots of palm trees, luxury rooms and most importantly, the projected opening date of May 2008. I think they will make this date. The construction is really moving along quickly and buildings are beginning to take shape.

The second billboard announces ‘Les Residences Mogador Beach’ which are luxury apartments on the grounds of the hotel.  The owners will have full use of all of the hotels services while living in a beautiful apartment right on Essaouira Beach. I wonder what the starting prices are, probably something over 250,000 Euros, maybe double or triple that.

These are the first luxury full service apartments in Essaouira. This could be a trend toward the future, especially when you think about the Diabet Golf Project. Luxury full service apartments and condos will probably be the key to it’s success.

Other News:

One of the big fishing boats capsized and sank off of Essaouira last week killing all 9 men on board. The Sid Zouine went down on Thursday afternoon near the port city of Essaouira, the Maritime Fisheries Department said in a statement released by the state news agency MAP. The reasons for the accident are still unclear, but most likely related to the unusually strong wind and surf that occured that day.

Weather - Beautiful Spring weather, but a bit blustery in the afternoon. Surf in the AM in the Bay, windsports in the afternoon. Have fun in our fabulous city!

Lots of stuff going on at the The Alliance Francoise this week.

May 3rd at 8PM the band DUO AMAL will play in the main foyer. The Duo consists of Anas Cherkaoui playing the oud and Pascal Ducourtioux on Guitar. They currently have a new album of Moroccan traditional songs.

May 5th will be the opening of the exposition «From A to Z» by AHMED LEKHAL from May 5 - 19. He is from Oujda and uses lots of natural materials in his art ranging from Arabic symbols to floral calligraphy.
