Jet4you.com Windsurf Challenge 2007

This week the Jet4you Windsurf Challenge caravan will stop at nearby Moulay Bouzerktoune, a little fishing village located at 15 miles in the north of Essaouira.

The event Runs from May 8th to the 15th and will feature 12 international competitors ranked amongst the world's top windsurfers including the Moroccan stars Boujmaa Guilloul and Fettah Ahlamara.

Moulay has good waves and wind all the year making it one of the best windsurf spots in the world. The Windsurfing Challenge will be covered by Wind Magazine and also video for Sport+ TV.

The official prize ceremony will take place on the 15th at the Sofitel Hotel in Essaouira.

During the contest be sure to stop by Dar Lawama, the host restaurant, for something nice to eat and drink.

To get to Moulay Bouzerktoune from Essaouira you will have to hire a Grand Taxi or take the #9 Local Bus that leaves from the Bab Doukala at 9:30 AM.

Last Wednesday I was at the Alliance Francoise to see the band DUO AMAL. The Duo consists of Anas Cherkaoui playing the oud and Pascal Ducourtioux on guitar and percussion. The place was full as usual and the music was exceptional. They started the show with a piece that was an interesting melange of Western style lead guitar and traditional Ode. They matched lots of notes and phrases and it worked very well. Then Pascal dropped the guitar, picked up his drum and accompanied Anas in a traditional Berber song. They were well rehearsed and did an excellent job. The only thing more I could have asked for is some vocals. I anticipated, but they never did sing.

Weather - After a week of high wind, things will calm down a bit from Tuesday through Saturday. Morning surf in the bay and perfect for Kite Surfing in the afternoon. All week it will be very warm with forecasted temperatures in the mid 80's.
